Information Services at the University of Nottingham has considerable experience in handling major projects and working in the area of Digital Repositories. For the past two years Nottingham has been the lead site for the JISC and CURL funded SHERPA project, with 21 partner institutions looking at the issues associated with institutional repositories. This awareness raising work, with practical advice and support, has been extended to address over 100 UK Higher Education institutions in the newly funded SHERPA Plus project. Nottingham supports the SHERPA/RoMEO service on copyright agreements which is used internationally by authors and repository administrators. Nottingham is also an active partner in the JISC funded SHERPA Digital Preservation project; EThOS, concerned with repositories for eTheses; and the internationally funded project Knowledge Bank. It is leading the Directory of Open Access Repositories (OpenDOAR project).

The SHERPA partners have been successful in setting up repositories and in starting awareness campaigns to increase their population and integrate their use into academic work-flows and culture. See http://www.sherpa.ac.uk for details. The partnership is a large and varied consortium and has within its membership a range of examples of repository environments and institutional structures. The partners are all research-led institutions, all with practical experience of building and populating eprint repositories. This strong and varied consortial background offers the ideal environment for exploring and testing ideas for repository development, which can be evaluated and disseminated to the wider community. From this background, the University of Nottingham is well placed to co-ordinate the pan-European awareness programme within DRIVER and produce the advice and information to support the needs of this varied and wide-spread user community.
