The National and University Library (NUK) is the national library of the Republic of Slovenia, at the same time performing functions of the Ljubljana University Library102. It is the main institution responsible for collecting and preserving all written cultural heritage in Slovenia. In this regard NUK maintains a digital repository of six different types of digital materials. All these collections are accessible through the NUK Digital Library of Slovenia (dLib.si103) portal. It has just started two different projects, one financed by the Norwegian financial mechanism and the other is funded nationally, which together help to improve the digital archive and include other research and scientific papers as well as theses produced by Ljubljana University.
Through the development of dLib.si, domestic companies which provide modern ICT will cooperate with other cultural and scientific public institutions in Slovenia and dLib.si will be available to all Internet users. As it offers a range of virtual material from different scientific fields, it is especially attractive for researchers. NUK started with the implementation of its digital repository in 2002 through different national projects dealing with methodological approaches and feasibility studies. In the project reUSE, NUK participated as evaluation coordinator and together with a partner from the University of Ljubljana and from the German National library evaluated digital repositories developed in Austria, Estonia and Germany.
